What changes between a UK and a US label
| UK (GB) | US (FDA) | |
|---|---|---|
| Reference values | %NRV per daily dose | %Daily Value per serving, with different reference amounts |
| Units | µg and mg | mcg and mg; vitamin A as mcg RAE, folate as mcg DFE, niacin as mg NE |
| Panel | Nutrient table, no set design | "Supplement Facts" box in a set format and order |
| Allergens | 14 allergens, emphasised in the ingredients list | 9 major food allergens, including sesame, in a "Contains:" statement |
| Claims | Health claims from the GB register only | Structure/function claims with the FDA disclaimer, and notification to the FDA within 30 days of marketing |
| Name | "Food supplement" | "Dietary supplement" in the statement of identity |
| Net quantity | Metric | Metric and US customary units for powders and liquids |
A worked example
A UK capsule giving 106 mg magnesium, 2 mg vitamin B6 and 200 µg folic acid per daily dose becomes:
- Magnesium 106 mg: 28% NRV in the UK, but 25% Daily Value in the US, because the US reference is 420 mg rather than 375 mg.
- Vitamin B6 2 mg: 143% NRV, 118% Daily Value.
- Folic acid 200 µg: shown in the US as folate 340 mcg DFE (200 mcg folic acid), which is 85% Daily Value.
Rocky also flags UK claims that could read as disease claims in the US. For example, "reduction of tiredness and fatigue" is better replaced with a neutral structure/function statement and the FDA disclaimer.
How it works

- Download the panel and US label text as a PDF for your designer, with a list of what changes from your UK label.
Questions
Is the US panel ready to print?
No. It's a draft for review, not FDA compliance sign-off. Have the final US label reviewed against FDA rules before you sell in the US.
Does ProofMyLabel check a dual-market label?
Yes. Choose "Great Britain and the US" when you start a packaging check, and Rocky checks the GB requirements and that the US panel works alongside them. See dual-market labels.
Is it free?
Yes, for signed-in users, within the 10 drafts a day allowance.
Create your US panel free
