Check your supplement blister and strip pack artwork

Blister and strip packs are usually sold inside a carton, which changes what each part of the pack needs to say.

Foil, strip and carton

Where blisters or strips are sold only inside an outer carton, the carton is the unit of sale and carries the full labelling, including the total net quantity and number of packs (1169/2011 Annex IX). Strips sold on their own are units of sale and need the full particulars themselves.

Most brands still print the product name, batch and best before on the foil so each strip stays identifiable. Upload the foil and carton artwork together so we can check them as one pack.

What we check

  • “Food supplement” and the names of the nutrients or substances that characterise the product
  • The recommended daily dose, a warning not to exceed it, that supplements should not replace a varied diet, and to keep out of reach of young children
  • The amount of each vitamin, mineral or other substance per daily dose, with %NRV for vitamins and minerals
  • Ingredients, allergen emphasis, net quantity and the UK business address
  • Health and nutrition claims against the GB register

Text size

Mandatory text needs a minimum x-height (the height of a lowercase “x”) of 1.2 mm, or 0.9 mm where the largest surface of the pack is under 80 cm² (1169/2011 Art 13 and Annex IV). Add your artwork size when you check a PDF and we measure your smallest text rather than estimate it.
